Our roof system is aluminum clad, insulated panel supported by structural I-beams. The panel skin has a clear coat finish for durability.

What type of glass is available?
All glass utilized in our sunrooms is safety tempered for maximum safety. Clear single pane glass is standard. SKD's Designer Series sunrooms can be ordered with clear glass, blue tinted glass, bronze tinted glass, low-e glass, or double pane insulated glass with above-mentioned tints.

What type of mounting surface is needed to construct a Sunrooms Direct Kit?
The sunroom can be constructed on a deck or a level concrete pad, with a foundation meeting local building requirements.  If it is not level, the area where the walls attach to the deck or patio should be brought to level using 2x6 boards to prep the site. This is fully explained in the installation manual. The house wall where the sunroom attaches should be plumb.

How much time should I anticipate to install the sunroom kit?
It will depend on the size of the sunroom selected and roof configuration. Based upon rooms sold, two people can expect on average 25-35 hours for our smallest single sloped sunroom. A large gabled roof style sunroom will take two people on average 50-70 hours.

What type of sunroom is best suited for my home, one with a single slope roof or a gable style roof?

Consider your home and how you plan to use the sunroom. Externally, which style will blend in best with your current rooflines? Internally, which style would provide you with the room of your dreams?

Can I heat and cool a sunroom?

If you're planning to heat and cool a sunroom and make it a sunroom to enjoy year 'round, you need to make that decision before you order your sunroom. We recommend using energy efficient low-e insulated glass if you plan to heat or cool your sunroom.  A local heating/cooling contractor can assist you in selecting the best HVAC method.

Can a sunroom be installed on an existing patio or deck

The sunroom can be constructed on a deck or a level concrete pad, with a foundation meeting local building requirements. You should consult with your local building department or engineer if you are unsure if your deck or patio is suitable.

How can I see a sample of the materials I will be purchasing?

You can order a sample package.  The sample package includes pieces of extrusions, roof panels and the installation manual.   The cost of the sample package will be applied to the purchase price of your sunroom.

What color roof comes with a bronze room?

The roof panels on a bronze room are white.  As white reflects light, white panels are more energy efficient than bronze panels.

You can purchase any number of doors from local building supply companies or national chains such as Lowe’s.

Can I add electric outlets and cable in my sunroom?

Do I need a building permit for my sunroom?

You should consult with your local building department to determine if a permit is needed.

What tools are required to install a sunroom?

We recommend a selection of hand tools including a hammer, rubber mallet, screwdrivers, square, level, tin snips, and driver tips.  Power tools include a circular saw, drill (a good quality cordless is best), and a hammer drill if building on concrete.  A step ladder and ladder to reach the sunroom roof will also be needed.  A brake for bending trim coil is needed, but is often rented.

Will I need gutters?  If so, are they supplied with the kit?

They are not required.  However, we recommend gutters with downspouts.  You can purchase gutters and downspouts from a local building supplier or contact a local gutter contractor who can supply gutters that match your house.
