How To Do-It -Yourself
Typical sections from the fully illustrated, step by step instruction manual that is part of every kit.
Preparation:
Once all site prep is completely fastened securely to your house wall, (and a separation barrier is installed where required) you may want to cover the exposed wood with an aluminum or vinyl material prior to installing your sunroom. You can rent a Sheet Metal Break for forming these products from your local tool rental company and/or building supply center. This device will also be handy after the roof is installed to create a flashing for your roof. We will talk more about that in the roof section.
See illustration 2A
The Master Frame is the individual sub-frame for each window or door for your sunroom. Each Master Frame consists of a Master Frame Head (top), a Master Frame Sill (bottom) and (2) Master Frame Jambs (sides). Select an area to assemble the Master Frames that is flat. It is suggested that you assemble them on a drop cloth, tarp or cardboard to keep them from scratching. Fasten the frames together using (2) #10 x ¾” Phillips Head Screws in each of the (4) corners to hold the frame together.
See illustration 4A
*Note: The Master Frames are sent non-handed. Decide at time of assembly which direction you want your door or window to slide. The Master Frame Jamb with the 2 slotted holes goes to the handle side/interior.
The Wall Panels, Wall Panel Trim and Master Frame Adapters are cut to the same heights as your adjoining Master Frames. Fasten the Wall Panel Trim and Master Frame Adapters together with (4) #8 x 1/2” Self Drilling Screws. Once the width of the wall Panels are verified, you can insert them in place and slide the Panel Trim Assembly over the exposed edge of the Wall Panel. (See illustration 5a) Push the Wall Panel all the way back into the Wall Channel for now. No fasteners are required at this time. Set each Master Frame in position temporarily until you have the remainder of the wall components installed. Start with Master Frame labeled “A” and work your way around to Master Frame labeled “F”. No fasteners are required at this time. See illustration 5A
Slide the Panel Hanger and the Hanger Tab together to create a Hanger Assembly. The Hanger Assembly sits on top of the Wing Trim and is fastened to your wood site prep. You should have an overhang on each side wall of approximately 6” +/- ½”. It is recommended that you chalk a line at the top of the Hanger Tab from end to end prior to installing the Hanger Assembly; use the line to ensure the Hanger Assembly does not sag during installation. See illustration 8A
Set the I-Beam on the Header Arm from outside the room. Slide it toward the Panel Hanger from an angle. Start the I-Beam into the Panel Hanger and onto the Roof Panel simultaneously. (See illustration 9F ) The use of two putty knives as shown, is helpful. Push the I-Beam all the way up and over until it is tight on to the roof panel. Tap the I-Beam both up and over with a rubber mallet.
Allow at least 48 hours for the Roof caulk to dry before installing any Flashing on the Roof. If you are installing any type of Flashing at the Hanger Assembly to Site Prep connection, see the Typical Flashing Detail. (See illustration 13A) Note that every home is different and the Flashing requirements may vary. You can rent a sheet metal brake for forming the Flashing from your local tool rental company and/or building supply center.
The sash installs from the exterior by slipping the top into the Head Rail and swinging the bottom inward until it clears the top of the Sill Track and drop into bottom operable track. Once aligned with the inside Sill Track, lower it into position. The Wheels should be in line with the center of the inside Sill Track. (See illustration 15A) Each Screen unit will be marked alphabetically just like the frames and should be installed into the corresponding frame.
